Bridge Renovation Completion

COMMUNITY PARK DISTRICT OF LA GRANGE PARK COMPLETES BRIDGE RENOVATION

Bicyclists, joggers and walkers who use the Salt Creek pedestrian bridge at Jackson and Brainard will be happy to learn that the bridge is re-opened after a weeklong restoration project. The wooden deck of the 120’ steel bridge had been plagued with rotted areas, which up to now have been patched. But with the appearance of more severe decay, the Community Park District Board took action last month to have the old wooden deck replaced with heavy duty wood timbers especially designed for this use. Sebastian Contractors, Inc from Brookfield received the competitively bid project at a price of $24,000.

The Park District erected the bridge in 1996 pursuant to a 20-year license agreement with the Cook County Forest Preserve District who owns the land. Under the terms of the agreement the Park District is responsible for bridge maintenance until 2016. The bridge immediately became an integral pathway link between the La Grange Park and Forest Preserve pathway routes. The Community Park District encourages all La Grange Park residents to discover the benefits of exercise by utilizing the newly renovated bridge.
